Frequently Asked Questions

  • Natural henna (Reddish/Brown) is the product of the leaves of the Lawsonia inermis plant - dried, ground, and turned into a paste with a liquid base.

Jagua Gel (Blue/Black) is the product of the extract of the Jagua/Genipa Americana fruit - used as ink and mixed into a gel form easier use.

Both are natural dyes that are used to stain skin, nails, hair, and fabric and can be applied in many ways (cone, tube, paste, etc). After application, the product is left on the surface for the pigment to be absorbed for a period of time. Once ready, the dried product is removed, leaving behind a (temporary) stain in the pattern applied.

  • Henna art is a creative practice rooted in culture and sometimes spiritual purposes for many cultures across the world, mostly in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.

While henna is most known for its use of marking occasions such as weddings, holidays, or funerals, it is also used as part of personal beauty and health regimens — and of course, just for the fun of it!

  • Henna is not exclusive to any one culture or occasion. Anyone can get henna done, for any reason — so long as you are not intentionally being malicious with your choice and usage!

  • Athaare exclusively uses 100% natural, chemical-free products. We choose simple and quality products that are safe and suitable for all skin tones and skin types.*
*With the exception of essential oil or fruit (for jagua) sensitivities + We are always happy to offer patch testing to ensure safety!

A henna or jagua stain typically lasts 1-2 weeks and can last up to 3 weeks depending on surface, skin type, and aftercare. With quality product (which we always use!), patience, and proper aftercare your stain will not only show up beautifully but last!
